This is a pretty little card! Shown above is a lovely Floral Garland with Ribbons. A pretty Blue Bird is flying above it.

  1. Hi, Karen -- It's so much fun to see the images that you collect and share so generously. Many of the historical images that you share make us wistful for a past that seemed simpler and lovelier. This image, however, reflects a bygone era that I would rather us not return to. Iconography of African Americans dressed in livery is considered offensive by many, as it evokes an era when some Americans were limited to subservient status. As a result, may cause discomfort among other readers. I am confident this isn't what you intended, but I feel compelled to let you know. Thank you again for your generosity and for sharing your passions with us. Thanks.

    1. Thank you for letting me know Kristin! It was certainly not my intention to offend anyone, I had no idea! I have replaced it with another graphic. I feel badly that most of the "people images" on my site, are white, but that's because it is so difficult to find images of people of other races, from this time period, that would be appropriate to share. I was excited to find this one because this child was so normal looking and cute, but I hadn't realized about the clothing. I have seen antique images of white children dressed up in adult costumes too, so it just didn't occur to me. Thank you again for pointing that out!

  3. Hi there! I just wanted to say a very special thank you to you for all the sharing that you do. This year I hosted my Hubby's side of the family for Christmas and decided that I would create a bit of a vintage theme. I found some gorgeous images on your WONDERFUL site and used them to make paper place mats (A3 size) and paper lanterns (A4 sized) - I received many compliments and told all my relatives about your blog and the many treasures there are to see! ♥

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Thank you for all the images that you share with us and thank you for being you. You a wonderful person to want to continue to share your passion with us. I really love the flower garland and the little bird. It is a welcome site as it is so grey and cold this time of year. Have a Happy New Year.

  5. Karen,

I'm sorry to see that some people cannot see beyond current "correctness" to understand the historical place images like the little black boy have in our cultural history. I agreed with you that he is a charmer and I'm happy I was able to download him. It is so rare to find any images of other races depicted in a way that is merely "of it's time" and not offensive, to me at least. Thanks! Kate

  7. Hi Karen!
I love this floral garland! Thank you! I would love to see the little African American guy that warranted Kristin's comment. I think I may have missed it. As an African American artist, I am hungry for all illustrations or photos with African Americans. I would love to download him. After all, he is a part of our American heritage and history. We cannot dismiss him or the era. If you could send the image to me or lead me to the correct link, I would love it. In fact, I think you should repost it, with a blurb of the history, behind such a photo. We can't run away from history. We have to embrace it and move forward. Many blessings and thanks for all that you do. ~Cynthia

    1. Hi Cynthia, I would be happy to email him to you! I tried to find your email, but couldn't track it down. If you email me (I have an email page on my blog) I will email you back with the graphic attached. If you still think I should post him after you see him, then I will repost him. Thanks so much for your input, I really appreciate it!!!

  9. First I'd like to thank you for yet again another excellent image, so pretty and cheerful at this time of year with the dreary weather for some of us.
I feel it's most encouraging that we can all express our feelings about an image, good or bad. You don't condemn anybody and you are gracious and generous to us all as always.
We all have different reasons for feeling the way we do, it takes courage to express an opinion, especially if it's not necessarily "popular".
You are to be commended heartily Karen for being more open minded perhaps than some others. It's refreshing to read other's opinions and your reactions to them.
Thanks for being you. Happy 2013 JaneEllen FurryKidzpaperworx@gmail.com

  10. Good Evening Karen

Thanks so much for posting such lovely images of days gone by. Some of these remind me of my childhood, not that I'm all that old, but my grandmother grew up in the Great ( well, not all that great :-) )Depression, and my parents are WW II kids, so I grew up with lots of wonderous things. I can hardly wait to use this on a wooden box. Don't you think it would be cute to add some ribbon , decoupage and add a vintage style button for a faux knob. I can hardly wait to use it, and lots of wonderful things that you enlighten, endear, and enrich us. Thanks so much.

  11. A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still images on a strip of plastic which, when run through a projector and shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images
